The UW Graduate Periodontics Program was founded in 1949 by Dr. Saul Schluger. Over the decades, it has become a benchmark of excellence in surgical precision and biologically based periodontal care. Thousands of residents have gone on to shape the profession around the globe, united by a common ethos: clinical rigor, scientific integrity, and patient-centered outcomes.

A Guiding Force

Dr. William “Bill” Ammons

Dr. Ammons followed in Dr. Schluger’s footsteps as a mentor, clinician, and innovator. Known for his generosity and brilliance, he helped solidify UW’s reputation globally while inspiring a generation of compassionate and curious periodontists.
