Letter from the Chair

10 October 2024

Dear Esteemed UW Periodontics Alumni,

I trust this message finds you well and in high spirits during this vibrant Autumn quarter. We, at the UW Graduate Periodontics Program, are delighted to share the latest achievements and developments within our program, which have been made possible through your continued support.

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce our approval to begin the search for a new Graduate Program Director, starting in January 2025. Thanks to the Dean's unwavering commitment and the generous contributions from endowments and the Graduate Program, we are poised to offer an attractive package to our new director. We anticipate welcoming the new director to our program by the end of the school year. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Johnny Wang for his exceptional service as Interim Graduate Program Director since 2020.

Our clinic continues to thrive, serving patients referred from various programs and community practices. We maintain a busy schedule with an average of 9 clinic sessions per week, operating with financial stability. The dental school, too, enjoys a solid financial footing and robust support from the University.

Additionally, I have had the privilege of serving as the Acting Chair of the Department for the past three years and now as Chair since August 2024. Our Graduate Program is achieving outstanding success on both clinical and research fronts, making me prouder than ever of our dedicated faculty and the accomplishments of our residents and alumni. The educational experiences offered to our residents are truly exceptional.

In light of our program's growth and success, I am excited to introduce the Selipsky Endowed Fellowship in Periodontics. This fund, generously established by Herb Selipsky and his family, aims to provide financial support to help us recruit and retain exceptional residents, ensuring the perpetuity of our excellent program.

To ensure our program remains competitive and maintains its top-tier status, we have formed an alumni fundraising committee with an ambitious goal of raising $10 million over the next five years. This generous amount will cover the full cost of tuition for each resident. We firmly believe that this goal is achievable through the commitment and generosity of our Perio alumni. Your support of this fund will be crucial for its success.

Enclosed with this message, you will find a personal note from Herb Selipsky, a brochure outlining the details of our fundraising campaign, and an endowment pledge card. If you have any questions or just want to hear how things are going at UW, please feel free to call or email me.

We earnestly hope that you will consider joining the Selipsky family and other dedicated supporters in making a generous contribution to this fund. By doing so, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that UW Perio continues to be recognized as one of the world's leading programs. Your participation is invaluable to us.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment and support!

Warm regards,

Frank A. Roberts, DDS, PhD
